Our first blog post! We've got lots of news and pics to share with you.

Welcome to our very first blog post!

We will be writing these regularly to keep you updated on everything that goes on at the sanctuary. We want you to feel like you’re part of our sanctuary family. You can subscribe here to have these posts emailed directly to you so you don't miss a thing.

This past while has been very eventful. We’ve had highs and lows, but are happy to have come out more knowledgeable and well-equipped for the future.

Vegan Wine and Cheese Fundraiser

Our fundraiser on May 7th was a huge success. Thank you to everybody who came out and supported us despite the cold and rainy weather. You helped us raise $2,500, all of which will be going directly towards caring for the animals!

If you weren’t able to make it, here is a quick recap of the day:

  • Alex and Priya from A Vine Romance were there to guide everyone through the wine and cheese tasting. Alex gave us an interesting overview of what makes some wines vegan and others not. Thank you, Alex and Priya, for organizing this fundraiser and for sharing your knowledge with us!

  • Kacaba Vineyards supplied us with three types of amazing wines, and Zengarry cheeses were there with their delicious cashew-based cheeses to sample as well as to purchase and take home.

Here's a slide show of some pictures taken during the Wine and Cheese event. Hover over the photo then click the right or left arrows to browse through the pictures.

  • We had some incredible local musicians playing in the barn! Thank you to Tim Fors, Raven Murphy, John Lemme, James Buren, Rob Wakelin, and Chris Saunders for sharing your talents with us.

  • We finished off the event by finally letting all of the cows out to pasture for the first time since November! They had been eyeing the fresh, green grass for a while, and were so happy to have soft grass under their hooves again.

Willard and Wallace

Thank you to all those who asked and showed their concern for our two ducks, Willard and Wallace.

For those of you who don’t know, they were attacked by a predator (we were told by the vet that it was likely a weasel due to the nature of the injuries, and weasels can get in through the tightest of places). We found them in the morning injured and bleeding, and rushed them to a vet. They were very shaken up, had lost a lot of blood, and were not in stable condition. All of this happened on the day before the big Wine and Cheese fundraiser event! Thankfully, after weeks of antibiotics, special care and lots of love, they are now recovering and once again running around the sanctuary, up to their usual mischief! We had a special, extra-safe, weasel-proof duck house built for them to ensure that they will be well protected. We now know how to administer medicine to a duck, and the ducks know that not all doctors are "quacks"! Click on the images to enlarge:

New Sanctuary Additions

We are so happy to announce that we have three new beautiful calves at the sanctuary.

Welcome to twins Mo and Charlie, who were born on May 4th, and little Daisy who was born on May 6th. They are so sweet and friendly, and love to meet visitors!
